Fat Free Stories

If you are not feeling very confident about how to go from QL4 to QL 5/QL6 on the Star, which is that dramatic moment when you decide in class to move from a tableau into a story, just state the problem (QL5) in one simple sentence and then the solution (QL6) in another simple sentence. Why?

It is because in the past, traditional TPRS/CI has asked teachers who are new to the work to suddenly weave a complex story consisting of many questions and answers. That is something that master storytellers often have trouble doing. The fact is that when people are new to storytelling they need to KEEP THINGS SIMPLE.

Thus, whenever you finish a tableau, you will learn to instantly – on its completion at the end of QL4 – assess its potential to become a story or not. And if you decide that it does, then just keep things simple by doing a “fat free story” (one sentence in QL5 and one sentence in QL6).

You can see how that works in the videos below. Madi Cabral is the teacher. In the first video, she creates the tableau and in the second she completes a “fat free” story.
