2nd Grade OWI – Who Draws It?

Alisa’s 2nd grade class recently created a one word image together (below). I present it here to make a point about who draws at those lower levels. I’m not sure we’ve talked about this here yet or if this point is in ANATS or ANATTY, but it needs to be made clear. The teacher or an aid does all the drawing. I’m not sure what the cutoff grade is but obviously there is one.
(However, with sixth graders I remember that when I first started doing the work on ANATS/Invisibles I was amazed how wonderful those 12 and 1/2 to 13 year olds did as artists. The competition was ferocious to be one of the two artists and the work produced was always first rate. Of course, there is nothing better than a sixth grader with CI. They are in a class by themselves for work in the realm of imagination and creating images. Researchers, I have always felt, would do better to just go in and watch sixth graders learn. I would give them a hint: not through worksheets.)
