We must avoid interrupting the flow of a story or a reading class with unnecessary digressions and explanations. What seems interesting to me as a language teacher is not interesting to them. They don’t want me to talk about the language. They just want to know what happens in the story or the reading. We can’t blame ourselves. Think of how we were trained. But if we were all forced to see video of ourselves teaching, we wouldn’t believe how much junk we say, none of which has anything to do with providing understandable messages and much of which has to do with showing off how smart we are. Speaking for myself, anyway.
