Question 2

Question 2
Jonathan explains:
My colleague (also a member of this CI PLC) has been given the, shall we say, “beautiful challenge” of teaching a French 3/4/5 class comprised of 35 students total in a room that only has 26 desks.  Oh, yes, and by the way, he’s the other one on the cart.
My comment is that this is truly ridiculous. The only answer I see is to remove the desks and go with the row of small tables with chairs behind them plan, or to just go deskless.
Basically, I’m just soliciting some words of wisdom from those out there who have traveled in the past or are currently doing so, in making life easier for us teachers so that we can get down to the business of creating with our students and giving meaningful feedback rather than pre-planning so much what we need to load on the cart for this class this time and then where to drop it off for the next and….
Yes – this phrase, “…rather than pre-planning so much what we need to load on the cart for this class this time….” made me just remember that I was on the cart for a year once in a big old Denver high school that was built in 1924 and I had to go up and down elevators to dingy top floor rooms full of dust in carpets that were probably cleaned once every five years. Don’t miss those days! But if there is any language teaching approach that lends itself to the cart, it’s the non-targeted Invisibles. You only need yourself, really. And the jobs. And a marker. And some artwork. That’s really it.
