In the Invisibles Star Cycle there is potential to work a lot less than we usually do over the course of a year. Here are 6 things you can do to work a lot less but get the same paycheck. Not sure about the math, but the point is clear:
(1) Don’t give homework. Make it optional. It’s the best way to handle the homework question in CI and everybody pretty much knows and has agreedĀ on that point for many years. (estim. 5% less work per year)
(2) Start each class with 10′ of SSR as discussed here many times. (est. at least 10% less work per year)
(3) Play the Word Chunk Team Game every Friday. The kids love it. (est. 10% at least less work per year)
(4) Give the CI Six Weeks Assessment Battery every six weeks. This is Tina’s brainchild and rocks the house. She is actually talking about it right now here in Minneapolis. I’ve asked her to post on it soon. (estim. at least 10% less work per year)
(5) Give projects connected to the different Invisibles job hubs, esp. the tech hub (Hub D), in April and May. Why teach in those two months? The kids are burnt out on stories by then. Projects are the best way to keep you from working too much when no one else in the building is actually teaching either. (est. at least 15% less)
(6) Drawing days – once every two weeks or so. (at least 5% less)
Total Time Savings: 50%. The math is probably off but you get the idea.
