Just Today – 1

Well the Invisibles are a year and a half old now, thereabouts. Tina was the first to extensively test them from January through into spring last year (2016) and she really hasn’t stopped. Without her co-authoring the book on the Invisibles, A Natural Approach to Stories, it would never have made it into print with Teacher’s Discovery.

So thank you Tina. I know how hard you worked on that book and how hard you continue to work and I know why and it has everything to do with real reform based on the research on behalf of kids.

The concept of the Invisibles is taking its own form in different teachers’ classrooms. This is what I wanted. It is because there is no one correct way to do this work, especially in the non-targeted area, right?

Just today, I found out what three more teachers are doing with the idea. here is the first:

Dana Miller-Kitch sent me this email:

Good morning Ben,

I just read this article and it got me thinking about how to do something like this after the class has watched the documentary of their year and compiled a book of their stories. I think it would be pretty amazing for the students to see how far they’ve come in a school year and what they’ve actually learned. I think I’d have each student do it so it is a true self-assessment or at least a section to be their own journey.

I’m assuming there are teachers who are doing something similar already.

Have a beautiful day!

Dana
