Either our district bosses and the administrators in our buildings want us to get creative and imaginative in our instruction, using all sorts of out-of-the-box strategies, or they want us to cover their curricular demands, address what is in those documents. They can’t have both because we can’t do both. They think that we can do both, but they are wrong. To think that we can be creative and imaginative in our instruction under the heavy constrictions of a set curriculum shows how willful and uninformed those supervisors really are. No wonder we are half crazy most of the time. If we please them we think that we get to keep our jobs. But here’s a little secret: if we don’t please them then most of us will get to keep our jobs anyway. That might help a few people in what is arguably the hardest month of the year. All of this is just my own opinion, of course.
