From Alisa today:
I know I’m the least likely person to share a tech tool but a few years back I saw something on Scholastic.com where you could play a virtual slot machine and get a random character + problem + solution, and I thought it would be great as a tool to generate ideas or make crazy stories. The idea stuck in my mind (though I did nothing with it) and today this tech tip came across my desk from the tekkie in my district:

I went to the site which so far is only in English, and I took it for a spin with a fantasy story. Basically I filled in the required mad-libs type fields (I input in Spanish) and then it coughed up a story. In Spanglish. I could see doing this all in Spanish or doing it alone and then translating the rest of the story into Spanish unless/until they add a Spanish feature to the site. It’s pretty fun with lots of story type options.
Here’s what my fantasy story looked like:

Give it a spin and tell me what you think – it could serve as a way to impel teachers forward if they feel uncreative…even if they just play with it on their own!
