Those who have been reading here for the past ten years know that Anne Matava’s script books rock the house but as we move forward more and more toward non-targeted work, we are starting to see that her story scripts are really much more aligned with non-targeted work than with targeted work.
So now we can say with accuracy that Anne’s books are no longer on the wrong shelf in the bookstore (the TPRS shelf) because they align more with the push toward Story Listening (Mason, Hargaden) in the greater CI community, since they have no targets.
Even the three locations that we see in TPRS , as written in Anne’s stories, aren’t there to get more reps on words that are part of a curriculum, but are only there to bring more pizazz and mojo and pop to the story via the repetitions of the main story line, which are often quite hilarious.
Anne’s work has a lot of potential as a story listening tool. I am in the process of coaxing her (I’ve had to coax each of her three script books out of her, that’s the way she is) to write a “100 Story Scripts” collection that combines all the best stories from the past with lots of new ones. I’ll keep everyone posted on that.
