Advice Needed

Craig West describes a situation that can only be described as gnarly:

Hey Ben –

Well I thought I had come up with a more interesting way of doing a reading about the MovieTalk we’ve been working with for the past couple weeks. I made a dialogue between a mom and a little boy about where babies come from and she told him the story about the short film: Partly Cloudy.

I thought it was within the ability of the class to read it and comprehend. There were some new words in there but I felt like it was more i+1 than completely new stuff. Mind you I am teaching “Spanish 1” in a class that’s 80% native speakers. Sooo frustrating.

Anyway today I get the clear picture now that we have one week left in our trimester that what I thought was comprehension was actually me being rushed through activities by bored native speakers who have no place in a Spanish 1 class.

Part of the activity was also for them to fill in  missing words but I didn’t give a word bank to work from maybe that was a mistake on my part.
