Red Alert 2

Some may remember the thread where Lance had to decide whether to accept a position teaching a language he didn’t know, which we all agreed was doable in that particular situation. Here is that post from a month ago for those who missed it:

Here is the good news/bad news update:
Ben,
The potential Spanish gig has taken an interesting turn. Despite being awarded a waiver from the state in a time of need, the Superintendent still isn’t too keen on having someone teach a language they’re not certified to teach for the full year. In today’s meeting, they proposed that I teach an Exploratory course (which only requires certification in one language). The plan is to teach 2 months of Spanish, Latin, and then French.
The good news:
– What WAS to be prep work in order to teach 6 months of Spanish has been reduced to 2 months.
– Teaching Latin is my jam, and also buys me 2 months of time for French.
The bad news:
– I don’t know French…at all beyond “ca va?” and another phrase I can’t spell.
LOL, right? Given the good news, I have more time to prepare to teach ~40 hours of French, but my head is kind of spinning. I will take this job once the Superintendent offers it. This is going to be a fantastic experience, but I will certainly need support from the PLC once that rubber hits the road, especially in April when I’m getting ready for that French.
