Don't Bother Me

James Hosler shares a thought:
I had a realization recently, about why I am so unsettled sometimes at school. It has to do with what the students feel in my classroom. I realized that, especially at this time of year but in some classes all the time, the students are hoping each day that I don’t show up as the best version of myself as their teacher. They are hoping for a day on which they won’t have to do anything. They are hoping I slack off. They are hoping I give in. Constantly. All the time. In many ways I think that is the unique weight we bear as teachers. We are working with a clientele that is more satisfied if we simply don’t bother them.
