Express Fluency Training

Elissa is doing her first teacher training Nov 12-13. She shares:

Hello PLC community!

I am doing my first teacher training in a couple of weeks!

I’m about to start planning this, but before re-creating the wheel I thought I’d check in with the collective wisdom of this group.

I have one and a half days with a language department of 7 teachers. In that time I will do a few different demos: a 1-hour Mandarin simple story (or perhaps better called “Elissarin” b/c I can say about 5 sentences of Mandarin. There will be no going out of bounds!) Also I will demo “Circling with balls” and do a OWI and movie talk, and of course reading with these activities (in Spanish). Various skills of TCI will be illustrated by the demos and discussed. I plan to include an overview of Krashen/language acquisition early on. And will also allow time to practice circling in small groups. What else do you think would be helpful for people to practice in two days? (I think more input is better than output at this stage, but what do you think?)

I’d love to see any Power Points people have created to introduce CI/TPRS to beginners if you would be willing to share with me/the group. (Thanks, Jim Tripp!)

I’m also compiling a list of resources for these teachers.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Note: Here is a video made by Elissa that I referenced in an ACTFL post on that ongoing thread. (I couldn’t help it because we can’t let Robert and Eric hang out there trying to keep that thing alive – and it should be kept alive because when are we going to get another chance to dialogue with them like this?).
