I got this from Andrew Snider, who is developing some new materials with real promise. He invites us to share feedback and use our network here to brainstorm as to where this project might go:
Hi Ben,
I recently started a website for Spanish students to get short, easy and comprehensible readings and audio for free. The site is www.reading633.com. Many of the stories are OWIs that my students have helped create that I have expanded on. Full disclosure, I have a little Spanish I/II novel that I wrote for my students on there, but it’s not about that. My main concern is getting students as much CI as possible. I think that this is an awesome vehicle for that goal.
The readings and audio files are completely free, and there are no ads. It could be great as an entry task, a quick reading to R&D for 5-10 minutes, or to have students keep a reading journal by answering the four easy questions after the stories, which is what I did in my Spanish I class.
It has really worked well for my students, and I’m looking for some volunteers to help make this resource available for more languages (French, German, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, whatever.).
If you could mention this on the PLC, I would greatly appreciate it. People can get in contact with me at andrewsnider15@gmail.com if they’re interested in sharing/creating some resources so that students can get more opportunities to read in the different target languages.
Thanks for all you do. See you on the PLC!
Andrew Snider
