iFLT/NTPRS War Room Program Notes – 2014

We will work on skills and strategies (if you see a skill or strategy that you want to work on that is missing from these lists, please comment in the fields below so we can add it):

POSTERS/SIGNS OF SKILLS: You will notice six posters on the wall. They are to remind us of the six skills we want to work on. Smaller versions of the posters will be in the hands of six observers. Whenever an observer with a sign sees the skill being done by the person who is “working”, they will raise the sign of the skill. This sign idea may not work, but we will try it because skill building is the key to our work with CI. It is my intent that if you leave the conference with nothing else, at least you will have the basics. The six signs will say:

  1. Circling S/V/O
  2. SLOW
  3. In-bounds
  4. Choral Responses
  5. PSA
  6. Annoying Orange

STRATEGIES: We will begin working with Look and Discuss and be exhaustive in our work with that activity. Each person working will see the strategy modeled by me or Sabrina first, and then they will get up to work, being coached.

Other targeted strategies for War Room sessions are:

  1. Circling with Balls
  2. Word Associations
  3. One Word Images
  4. Word Chunk Team Activity
  5. Verb Slam
  6. Read and Discuss
  7. Reading Option A
  8. Classroom Rules/jGR
  9. Quick Quizzes, Dictée, Jobs for Kids, the Naming Process, etc.

The group will decide which of these strategies we want to work on in any given session.
