Upper Level Script

We all know that a very simple script can, with proper circling and questioning, become a really complex script and then a great reading and then a great set of embedded readings. But it is possible as well to write a complex script for upper level kids from scratch, as Andrew Snider has done here. I’m sure he would like some feedback if anybody uses it. It’s good to see people writing scripts. I think it is a special gift to be able to do so, in my opinion. So Andrew where do you teach?

Hi Ben,

I’m planning out my spring quarter and I am going to be using quite a bit of subjunctive mood in my Spanish 123 class (third level but still first year for most students. The college and university system for languages is completely broken, in my opinion).

I wrote a story script that I’d like to share with the PLC. I wrote it in Spanish but have included an English translation.

Thanks for all the help,

Andrew Snider

While They Were Waiting in Line…

habían ido — they had gone
mientras hacían fila (cola) — while they were waiting in line
quiero que pidas (hagas, compres) — I want that you order/ask for (do, buy)

One day, Mikey and Alexandra had gone to Johnny Rocket’s because they wanted to eat insects. Mikey had to go to the bathroom. While they were waiting in line, Mikey said to Alexandra, “I have to go to the bathroom. I want you to order me a cockroach.” Alexandra didn’t want to order it for him because she didn’t like the cockroaches at Johnny Rocket’s. But she ordered it because they were friends.

Another day, Mikey and Alexandra had gone to the hospital because they wanted to do a surgery. Mikey had to go to the bathroom. While they were waiting in line, Mikey said to Alexandra, “I have to go to the bathroom. I want you to do the heart transplant for me.” Alexandra didn’t want do the heart transplant for him because she preferred brain transplants. But she did it because she wanted to play with a human heart like an aztec priest.

Another day, Mikey and Alexandra had gone to the zoo because they wanted to buy short giraffes. Alexandra had to go to the bathroom. While they were waiting in line, Alexandra said to Mikey, “I have to go to the bathroom. I want you to buy the short giraffes for me.” Mikey didn’t want to buy the short giraffes for her because he had already bought the really fat elephants. Mikey took the elephants and put them in the lion cage. The lions ate them up.
