My name is Jacqueline Ford. I am a French teacher to grades 5 – 9 in Calgary, AB, Canada. I am the sole second language teacher in my school and I am grateful to have the support of your PLC as even in my extremely large school board (the Calgary Board of Education is the second largest in the country) second language pedagogy seems to me to continue to be very traditional, grammar heavy, uninspiring. There are also very few French specialists left teaching FSL – French as a Second Language – despite having a very healthy French Immersion system.
