We must give the kids proper punctuation instructions. I sometimes forget to say, for example, “point” for a period. This confuses them. So I am going to try to do that better. Adolescents need clarity.
Sabrina addresses this:
I have taught punctuation from day one with all of my classes. So I have one transparency that looks like this (and I use the same one year round):
Signes de Ponctuation français:
- . (point)
- , (virgule)
- ; (point virgule)
- : (deux points)
- ? (point d’interrogation)
- ! (point d’exclamation)
- « (ouvrez les guillemets)
- » ( fermez les guillemets)
- ….(points de suspention)
And since my kids know it needs to be dead silent in the room, every time I say a punctuation in French, I tap with my pen on the transparency where the puctuation mark is and they look up to make sure they have the right one, although by now they know most of them. So the only noises allowed in the room are: 1) me dictating, or 2) me tapping with my pen on the transparency where the punctuation sign is.
One option to the transparency is a poster to which we could laser point when it comes up until the poster is no longer needed.
In that interest, if we could get those terms above into the different languages we teach, I could put them all in the posters section of this site. If you put them below, I will make the posters.
Merci d’avance.
