This from chill:
We are in a three day in-service at school on curriculum mapping. The template asks for the following information:
1. Essential questions. I was given the example “What are the days of the week?”
2. Standards 7.1 and 7.2
3. Concepts, Knowledge and Content – my colleagues write stuff like greetings, saying good-bye, days of the week, months of the year, seasons, numbers 1-20 I write ” My list of Bryce Hedstrom’s foundational structures and vocabulary” and talking about the kids with info gleaned from their inventories – likes, activities, ages, numbers, what they look like, what they like to do, do they play sports, etc.
4. Skills: I am to list things like talk about family, seek and provide personal information, express possession, state likes and dislikes, Describe people and things, gustar, the personal a, ser vs estar.
5. Suggested Units/Resources: My colleagues write “Navegando level 1 textbook and supplemental series materials. Unit 4B
Here was my first try –
Essential Question:
- Can you describe aspects of what makes you unique to new friends?
Standard 7.1
Concept/knowledge/content
Foundational French – Hi frequency structures and vocabulary which is crucial to the functioning of the classroom. It will lay the groundwork for you to talk about yourself and others, and it will prepare you to understand and tell stories. (HT Bryce)
Skills –
- Answering scaffolded questions yes/no, either/or, who, what, where, when, how.
- Demonstrating classroom behaviors that lead to language acquisition.
- Reading a simple text based on high frequency acquired structures
Has anyone tried to put a comprehensible input curriculum map together? Jen in Jersey or Jen in New Hampshire are you out there? There is a strong current running through that under no circumstances can grammar not be the centerpiece of all learning. I am looking at the DPS website ” World Language Course of Study” pages and trying to adapt the idea of working with 200 high frequency words which looks like nothing to my admin, but it’s enough content that could be easily spread over two years.
The question is – go simple or go big? Any input would be welcomed and I will post any documents that I can live with that are acceptable to “them”. Email me at chill1019@gmail.com if you want my first attempts.
Thanks everyone.
