A Single Method

The influence of Miriam Met and Helena Curtain and people like that can still be seen in this point from John:

Hi Ben,

On page 10 of this month’s issue, there is an article “Five Common Mistakes Language Learners Make.” This is a condensed version of an article by a EFL instructor Ann Merritt in the Telegraph (based in the UK).

#4 A single Method

…language learners who use multiple methods get to practice different skills and see concepts explained in different ways. What’s more, the variety can keep them from getting stuck in a learning rut….

There are so many things wrong with the assumptions that underlie this statement. To me, this shows how the ACTFL is continuing with the “toolbox” metaphor, even when it undermines their standards. But if this is the dominant paradigm, so to speak, among administrators and department heads, how should we present what we are doing in these terms, in order not to be put in a box by our admins, based on the assumption that CI is just another rut?
