Have you thought about how well your recent initiative of Class Competitions lines up with that fifth and most awkward of ACTFL’s Five Cs, Communities?
I asked him:
No. where you going with that? Communities of kids contacting each other in other states?
He answered:
Well just the dynamic of a class basically working with another class to make the best stories possible. You can spin it for the admins as a collaborative deal and to the students as a competitive deal.
I focused on what he said here:
…the dynamic of a class basically working with another class to make the best stories possible…
and told him that I interpret that phrase to mean that, as a result of their showing their work to other classes and comparing and competing and self reflecting at the class level, they create great community, right?
Then I told him:
I like this! I have never addressed community in my life. Can you imagine actually addressing the Community standard for real?
