Blue Chip Ideas – 1

A repost from January, with new blue chip ideas added in:

In welcoming Lori to the group this past week, chill said that there is gold in these posts. I am happy and agree. But I am becoming concerned that so many posts and comments here over the years have created a problem of too much information.

I would like, from time to time, to point to some of the real gold here for newer people who don’t have five years to read all the stuff contained in this PLC. What, really, is the best stuff we have come up with over the past years here?

Certainly, there are these:

L&D (Look and Discuss)
ROA (Reading Option A)
Assessing according to the three modes of communication (Robert Harrell) – now called jGR.
Eric Herman’s idea of doing PQA with selected target high frequency verbs for five minutes each class as per:

But what else is there? Maybe those who have been along for the ride for a long time here have some things to add. The reason I want this list of blue chip ideas in one place is for new people, so that they can see those ideas that are original to this site and have proven themselves in many TPRS classrooms by the teachers in this PLC over time to make their teaching better than it would have been without the implementation of these ideas into their teaching.

So please add in the comment fields what you consider the best of the best from this site that have made a definite impact on your teaching. Each idea you share can only help newer teachers to this group. They can click on the categories to the right to become immersed in articles about the concept they are researching.

The list above is only a start, off the top of my head, as it were. For some other ideas to consider as “Blue Chip Ideas” see https://benslavic.com/blog/2012/12/21/ideas-for-2013/
