Both David and Jim have mentioned here over the past month or so that they are keeping their stories, extended PQA, etc. that they build with their kids limited in details. This is so key. One of the keys to discipline, the major one, is that the kids must feel like they can do it, like they can have success. Mainly, this means limited new verbs and actions more than colors and stuff like that.
So, if we add endless details with too many words, mainly new verbs, that the kids just don’t feel comfortable with (all new words are uncomfortable) then we set them up for failure. Keep the stories simple. Keep them short, maybe five to eight sentences or so at this time of year. And go slowly, always check for understanding in an effort to get nice and loud choral one word answers (mainly yes/no), and stay in bounds.
