Social and Emotional Learning

John Piazza sent this from San Francisco, the City-Where-Changes-Often-Start-in-America:

Ben,

My administrators just handed us the chart that is shown at the below link, and said that we were going to spend some time talking about it this school year. It is from an organization whose focus is on what they call social and emotional learning. The core competencies that are laid out in this chart seem to be all of the things that support a successful CI language classroom. So now on the academic side we have the ACTFL interpersonal communication criteria (thanks to Robert’s explication/elaboration). And on the behavior/community/anti-bullying side we can also find support in a research-based set of core competencies that schools are paying attention to. Now I haven’t looked into this, but the chart may be helpful to teachers as we try to be specific about the “behaviors” that support language learning in our classrooms.
