TPRS Graduate Course Offering

Here is a graduate TPRS course offering coming up in South Carolina:
TPRS Graduate Course (for teachers who would like to use TPRS with students of all ages and levels)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Dates: June 14 – 17, June 21 and August 2, 2010
Cost: $125.00 for 3 hours of graduate/recertific ation credit and course materials

Course Description: Learn how to incorporate TPRS into YOUR classrooms immediately. There will be purposeful instruction on the Three Steps, along with many skills necessary to make TPRS work in any classroom, regardless of which level. The first few days will be focused on discussing and practicing the skills and strategies, while the last two days and the post-workshop work will be focused on the creation of stories and lessons that can be used at the start of the year. We will discuss how extended readings can be used to drive the curriculum. At the end of the course, each teacher will have enough extended readings to last 17-25 hours of contact time. TPRS is fun and effective, and it can work for you!
About the Instructor: Elizabeth Hughes has been an elementary TPRS teacher for five years. She has attended TPRS conferences held by Blaine Ray and Karen Rowan. She has also observed Ben Slavic and has taken classes from Karen Rowan, Carol Gaab, Linda Li, Blaine Ray and Donna Tatum-Johns. She has been a member and has read the TPRS list for five years and has been an active reader of Ben Slavic’s blog for three years. Elizabeth has aided in the creation of two TPRS curriculums with a team of phenomenal world language teachers in Colorado that uses TPRS exclusively. She has an immense knowledge of TPRS, and she will share it with YOU during this course!
Pre-Institute Work: 10 hours of independent preparation, as assigned by the course Instructor, and must be completed prior to the first day of class.
Meeting Times:
Monday, June 14 – Thursday, June 17 & Monday, June 21; 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Post-Institute class date:
Monday, August 2, 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Site: Exact location will be sent to all registered participants as soon as it has been finalized.
Course Credit: Attendance is mandatory for the full 45 hours of the course and will earn 60 recertification points under Option 1 of the SC Certificate Renewal Plan, Renewal Credit Matrix. Each participant will receive 3 hours of graduate credit from Coastal Carolina University upon completion of the CCU Registration Form and satisfactory completion of the course.
