2 thoughts on “Stop Instructing Your Students Now!”
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.
I had an experience the other day where my class was in the computer lab and a handful of students decided to play cards in a back table. Seniors. A couple of which have been known to cuss me out regularly (I took over from a defunct class in January). An instructional coach was in the room. Nonetheless, I said to myself, “Shit, I’m not going to even fight this one.” I sat down with them and talked to them about the game they were playing, Spades, and elicited responses. It was the first time I had those two nasty students open up to me and actually respond to me with some humanity.
Later on, rapping with the coach, we both threw our arms up in the air about the “inappropriateness of playing cards in class”.
