Go, Bernard! Don’t you love it when someone from the admin gets it! Good for him but better for you!
“I feel naked” a student without a desk says… speaks to the lack of intimacy our students get at school on a regular basis.
And us. I was in a constant state of shock during my career. I felt a deep sense of anger about teaching a language but not knowing how to do anything more than talk about the language with them, since I didn’t know any better. I felt so distant from the kids. It felt all wrong to not be able to reach them. They all seemed to be in the land of tears*, and I was too but I hid it behind a smile because I had to. But the tears turned to laughter thirteen years ago, and the twenty-four years of shock went away.

I love that you refer to your years as a teacher as before and after. That is how powerful this process is. I do the same and I can’t wait until I have 13 years on this side of teaching. And thanks to the CI community many more can have this same transformation. Instead of B.C. and A. D. it could be B.CI.
