Wow, I’ve forgotten about this game! Its been like 3 years since I’ve done this game. It was always successful. I’m going to make it a point to play it this week.
I like doing word chunk translation for bellwork, too. The stranger the chunks, the better because it makes them think. “Does that really say ‘the door yells’ or am I going crazy?”. I feel like it helps them play with the language and figure out how it works.
Yeah Chris so when you do Word Associations that is the other time to really get good reps on chunks of words, just pulling weird combos of words off the wall. It can be done in both WA and WCT. However, it really helps if the words are mastered first. That is why we wait until the kids have been doing lots of TPR, Verb Slams, etc. before doing it with beginning kids. I really like what this game does for those unhappier kids though, as described above. Some love their jobs and whenever we play and they get to be up there next to us it just changes everything. I defer to their decisions and then there is that little kind light there between us and it’s enough to change the game for that kid in our class.
This game never fails me-the students LOVE it!!
