Yay, Ben — you have spoken the truth, again, beautifully. This time — to a peer!!!!!!!!
You will have a special place in World Language teacher heaven…

You made my day, BTW….
Kicking Data’s Ass
An Opera
by Ben Slavic
Scene I
(at Curriculum Mapping Meeting)
Chorus: DATA, DATA, DATA.
Ben: No.
Data Turd at the meeting: “You don’t you care about data.”
*Ben keeps his cool.*
Scene II
Ben: “Come check out my class.”
*Ben teaches awesome class (no data).*
Data Turd (pathetically): “… but… data?”
Ben: No.
Data Turd (panicked) : “… gotta go!”
(Data is defeated. Curtain falls.)
There is a great data burning scene where the orchestra reaches a deafening crescendo….right?
Absolutely.
PLC: “sempre libera de data!”
BUM BUM!
Ben. Thanks so much for that! Many of us are in departments on this journey alone. I’ve always worked with TPRS departments till now (ask Zach). Your words add sanity and muscle to this work we do. It’s easy to get worn down.
I’m glad you had this experience as a follow up from your vertical alignment meeting, Ben.
Sean, you teach Spanish heritage speakers right? My department chose me to do it next year. Could we share resources?
Awesome strategy. You give the opponents a choice: The way of happy language acquisition or boring memorization. It’s a choice after all for all of us.
