Here is a pep talk about the need for everyone who is in this group to send in a bio. Maybe it can give another slant as to why it is such a big deal to me:
We have reason to want to keep the group small. There is no problem for those who want to “lurk”, as they say, but we have had at least three imposters – we call them moles – in the past few years who joined to keep an eye on a colleague, in all cases they were colleagues in the same building as the person they were spying on. I know it sounds unbelieveable. But it has happened. We cannot allow the quality of our discussion here to be compromised. Our professional growth is dependent on the trust we have for each other, so we can be honest and speak real things about what we are experiencing in our classrooms. For most of us, this work is our livelihood and we can’t and will not allow any sense of mistrust or doubt creep into these pages simply because we don’t know who is in the group. It’s kind of like being at a party. Isn’t it more fun when you know the people? It’s like that. So send in your bios to me at benslavic@yahoo.com. Just do it. Now. So you don’t get deleted.
My bio hasn’t posted yet, but you did send a reply/confirmation email, so I hope I made the cut. I tend to sit on the sidelines reading and learning, rather than speaking up.
Yes Michael I have it and thank you. I am first dealing with the members list and then will post a growing collection of bios. It will be fun to read all of them and get to know each other as we go along. Trevor if you read this thank you for figuring out how the avatars work and thank you Sean (Lawler – Spanish teacher in Chicago) for asking the question about the photos in the first place. Michael lurking is a very good word here. Lurk away. Perhaps the new forum will be a place where people who are quieter can ask questions that they might not on the PLC proper – that is pretty much its purpose.
And while I am thanking people I have to say thank you to Kristin and Jennifer in NJ for starting the very first discussion on the forum. Very cool. Thread #1. Hopefully there will be many more to come as we learn to navigate our way through this work and closer and closer to the Pure Land:
