Corinne, I love this: “I love trying new things so much, I think I’ve tried too much that’s a bit unfamiliar and it’s contributed to my feeling of lack of direction in the classroom.” Who among us has not been there. Your insight is spot on. That is the genius of Ben’s TPRS in a Year! I forget to give the story recording book out too. My job this year, when I feel myself getting frantic inside, which leads to too fast etc, is to breathe deeply, focus on their eyes and stay in the moment. If I don’t, my feeling of “lack of direction” is reflected in what the students give back to me. The trick for me, I think, is to have a plan in my mind that is not necessarily transparent to the kids, but they have the feeling that I know where the train is going.
…”the story recording book” – there! another little detail that helps my random brain! Not just loose pieces of paper. That’s great! Thank you.
