I’m so so happy for you, Mary Beth! You deserve it. 🙂 🙂
Thank you Leah!!! More celebrations ahead, right???? 🙂
This is an awesome report. Congratulations, Mary Beth!
Thank you Diane – I look forward to meeting you this summer in MN! FINALLY!!!! 🙂
Yay!
What a great story! You never know where good news will come from. And I love the sequence: Camino de Santiago –> boots –> new job! Congratulations!
Don, this is so cool! I hadn’t even thought of it that way! But, yes, getting this job – my dream job for the past four years – kinda is like hiking the Camino for 500 (analogy: working in a non-CI department for 4 years and the struggle that brings) – to ending up in the cathedral, with tears streaming down your face (yup, I’ve done quite a bit of crying!!! I didn’t realize how much stress I was under until I got this job. The relief has just been bringing a flood of tears whenever I think about it. Just like when I walked into the Catedral de Santiago for the first time! Very emotional experience!!! (and I was just studying there!!! – did not walk 500 miles!)
That’s great Mary Beth! Congratulations!
Congrats, Mary Beth! With all the love you’re got to share it’s no wonder a CI friendly school is snatching you up.
Wow Sean, thanks! Never thought my “love” showed!!! Thank you!! Are you going to be in MN?
It most certainly does show! Yeup. I’ll be in MN. I do hope I get to have a chance to small-talk with you and many other members here up in Boulanger’s home.
Ditto Mary Beth.
Noone could be happier than me for you!
You have been waiting for this break for years now.
You are going to do wonders with your students and you will be so much happier.
We’ll need to celebrate your victory at iFLT…
I agree with Don….the Camino and the Journey…it’s all connected!!!! Mary Beth you know how much I love and support you and how happy I am that this is your new future. Pintarse la cara..Color Esperanza…singing away for you over here in upstate NY!!
with love,
Laurie
Thank you Laurie – you were a HUGE help! Thanks so much!! 🙂
Mary Beth this is such a great story! I think it lifts all of our spirits to know that we are desired and valued when we leave schools and go to new ones. Thanks for sharing it… I especially love the part about El Camino. I studied in Santiago de Compostela:)
Michael,
Thank you! It really is important for folks to know — if you are passionate about what you do, then it’s easy for it shine through. I am so giddy and excited about teaching in a way that includes the students, a way in which they are center stage …..after all, it is THEIR education!
Santiago: I *LOVE* Santiago. What an incredibly magical city!! I studied there too, albeit for only a month …July 2004 ….Jacobeo year! But I have become obsessed with it and the Camino — the kids can tell! 🙂
This is beautiful, MB. You have finished your emotional roller-coaster ride. Now you are getting on a real train and can enjoy the trip. Looking forward to some positive reports. Rejoicing with you.
So, are you going back for the boots?
Thank you Nathaniel. I look forward to seeing you at some more peer coaching this summer! 🙂
Wow! Congratulations! What a positive story! The new environment will have a huge great impact on your wellbeing, as well as your teaching/your kids’ acquisition.
It seems like the strife within a dept causes its members to each turn inward, protect themselves, and merely survive, each to herself, whereas a well-oiled, aligned, collaborative team with a common vision sends out great vibes to kids, parents, colleagues, admin, the community. That’s how this stuff will take flight!
BTW, who else but a language teacher would get into that kind of an exchange with the local hiking boot salesman?
🙂 BACKPACK saleswoman — science teacher no less! and she’ll be one of my colleagues next year! 😀 hahaha
Thanks!!
A colleague just posted this on FB — for all of you contemplating change (or even if you haven’t yet, but are unhappy) READ this!!!
What a great article!!!
