Hi Ben,
Could you post this opportunity for a Mandarin teacher? I need to find someone soon because I’ll be telling parents details of the trip in the near future.
Thanks,
Diane Neubauer
February 25 – March 1, 2013, I’ll be taking my class of 13 8th grade students on a Mandarin-themed trip to San Francisco. We’ll stay in Chinatown, visit a number of Chinese-related sites, some big “usual” tourist sites, and eat a lot of Chinese food. I will be speaking with them in Mandarin throughout the trip. Students are asked to speak in Chinese (or be silent and listen) during meals and are generally encouraged to use their Chinese as much as they will. The goal is to have a fun, educational trip with a Chinese flavor (literally and figuratively).
I’m looking for a Mandarin teacher who is able to join us, help supervise the kids cheerfully, and speak in Mandarin. Students have basic Mandarin ability. Speaking clearly and simply, patiently repeating, and being honestly encouraging as students attempt to understand and speak is critical. Another teacher from my school plus myself will also chaperone. It’d be best to have a male Mandarin speaker so the students see that men speak Chinese too! 8 of the students in my class of 13 are boys. Compensation: All costs of flights, meals, tickets, etc. provided plus a stipend. The teacher will stay in a private hotel room.
Send emails with interest to diane.neubauer@lfcds.org. There are blogs from the two first trips in 2011 and 2012 that I can refer interested teachers to view for a sense of what the trips have been like in the past. Thanks!
Diane Neubauer
