Today I asked the kids at lunch what the best or most important part of the year was. Based on their answers, here is what I have come up with:
Build a strong community in the classroom and throughout the school. That’s what matters most. Get to know the students as people, not as a student and allow them to get to know you. Lots of interaction and lots of questions. The more talking, the more you get to know what they are thinking, the better you understand them and the better you can “teach” them . You can’t teach someone who does not want to be taught , so don’t spend too much time on forcing them to learn. Still ask some questions because they might discover they want to learn, but not too many. Focus on those who want to learn, and don’t be afraid to take risks and go beyond what you think they are capable of. Never assume anything. Talk to them. Start by asking a few questions from there things can only get better. United we rise.
