  1. I know what you mean!
I’m still learning to drive that truck but every day the mileage gets more and I strongly believe it’s a road without an end so that everybody can always learn to drive more smoothly and enjoy the ride.

    1. Ben, the no-speed limit would be great if more teachers were interested in the research and then the CI-truck might become a racing car.
But I’d say educators don’t feel the need for change in language learning bc the traditional way is working well; lots of kids pass their A-level exams and that’s good enough for the establishment.

  2. Fun analogy, Ben! The idea that the cargo has already been packaged and loaded, that all we need to do is deliver it, helps alleviate a lot of stress. Working in schools is stressful enough without all the planning!

  3. Yeah the truck is loaded by the people on the dock. We just deliver. So why plan? We planned when we learned the language in the first place. Now we only have to drive around and share fun times like muppets do and take things light.

  4. Just think of all the thousands of posts, energy and anxiety spent on taking the very simple and mundane task of truck driving and embellishing it to make it look like school; to make it acceptable to bean counters; to fit in the columns of the eval rubrics and curric guides…
The most recent round of work by Ben & Tina (Natural Way, Management, Year-long plan, Cameron’s Square Peg, etc.) alleviate teacher stress about documentation by giving us all the fancy-pants verbiage we need to fill out the paper work…
I’m going to be evaluated next week by a new admin who has yet to set foot in my room while I’m teaching… And you can bet I’m reviewing the 4 Danielson domains to try to insure I get the boxes checked, even though I feel confident as a truck-driver… my cargo arrives and my customers are satisfied…

    1. I feel the same way Alisa. “Customers” or Stakeholders need to be satisfied. I have used exit tickets and now I am using small quizzes using Matava scripts. I test for comprehension and it affects their grade little but I see it as a “win-win”.
