Kailey Dellinger at GW moved a very very difficult last period class on a Friday into a space of fun and happy participation. She did this by paying attention to all the kids, playing to their strengths, praising them, including them in the story creation, and going slowly enough.

If somebody were to call this young man on his academics because he may not care to master the concept of the imperfect subjunctive out of a grammar book, then them’s fighting words after what I him do Friday. He’s the class leader. He represents a new kind of language student – the non-boring kind.
Sorry for the ramble but I get excited when I see an entire department of five teachers whose average age is 28 kicking ass with comprehension based instruction. In that school I saw everyone in the department standing shoulder to shoulder facing together in the same direction. Wow. Just think of what is going to be happening there in a few years!
