I have video that needs some repair (annoying buzz noise for several minutes – a video guy thinks that could be cleaned up). Originally I was going to edit out parts I didn’t like what I said or did. Then I thought, just transcript the clip to say, “This question confused them and I wouldn’t ask it!” Then I thought, when will I have time to do that?
So… what if the video is unedited and not entirely approved of by the teacher in the video? If I can get the buzzing sound out, I can post it. This was a day 1 class of 4th graders: setting expectations and doing Circling with Names.
No such thing as a perfect video.
Rather than take the time to edit out errors, add commentary or subtitles, how about the video gets posted to an article here and then in article or comment field the teacher him/herself can give their own reflection on what did(n’t) work. I know we are all very reflective teachers and we probably notice where we could improve on our own, so if we want the PLC to focus on feedback on other parts, then the teacher just makes that comment.
Although, considering the videos to be for the greater good, it’s not the actual teacher we’re focusing on when we give feedback, but on the strategies and style used. In that sense, we are trying to comment on the whole of the method and video and not just as a means to give the 1 teacher feedback.
Good plan – much easier and simpler just to type up a paragraph with the link. I start school Monday so time is at a premium!
