I will never “cease to be amazed” at how timely this PLC always is!
I just left a Sp 1 class of Freshmen. We are starting Brandon Brown Wants a Dog and I put together 10-15 pictures of really interesting dogs. For each one we discussed “would Brandon want this dog, why or why not?
It truly is so difficult to get a group of teenagers to stay with me in the target language! Many do – but 100% is tough.
Inevitably I quickly slip into the mindset that “if I were really good at this, if I were as effective as _________________ they would engage, have fun, listen with the intent to understand. If only I were more effective.
Then, I came into my Academic Support, logged into the PLC and got reminded that perhaps it is NOT me. That perhaps it is just because “Very few teachers can be big dogs. It’s too hard.”
Thanks Ben.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Yep. Me too Skip. Good timing for a break.
Thankful beyond words for this group!
“Those who try to get a group of teenagers to stay with them in the target language are the big dogs.”
Maybe not just teenagers!! Trying to keep my junior primary classes, 5 – 7 year olds, in the TL is just as challenging as it is for teenagers – mine are 12-14 year olds, just on a different level, especially at this time of the year when we are all winding down. 3 weeks left of the school year!!
