So, as per the preceding three articles here over the past few day, the problem is how to get every child wanting to be involved in those few seconds after SSR ends and when the auditory input is about to begin. How to do that?
If we practice the greetings, (this is kind of fake, it feels a bit lame and forced) or “just talk to them” about anything that comes up (fake, lame, forced) or even start the first day of class with Card Talk (fake, forced but not lame) it puts too much pressure on the teacher and the kids. It’s too hard. The teacher wants it too much and the kids don’t want it enough. Both teacher and students have to be there. They can’t leave the room. So the auditory input is too nervous, too pushed, too artificial.
Let’s take it to higher ground.
