Remember that the high-stakes tests these kids are preparing for–IB and AP Latin–basically require this kind of cramming. Can we really blame the teachers for that?
I definitely don’t begrudge the AP or IB teacher who has no choice but to create a cram-intensive class. I do find it frustrating though when those teachers claim that this is the most effective way to teacher Latin in general, even to 12 year olds! Then they use the AP or IB scores of their .000000001% ers as proof that they are using best practice.
Life would be so much better if the AP Latin test wasn’t the ugly monster that it currently is.
