I’m a terrible singer, so I try to sing (terribly) every chance I get
Random but here are two recent examples of my singing in class:
I have a student names Ben in my past period class. Everyday when he walks in I belt out “Benny! Benny! Benny! Benny and the jets!”
I have a student whose last name is Pumneo. Her name in my class is “pum pum”, pronounced POOM POOM. When she walks in, I sing “pum pum pum, lemme here ya say way-Oh, way-oh!”
If I’m not having fun with my job, I’m being miserable, so I choose to always have fun, even if I’m the only one in the room, or building, enjoying myself.
Ben, I have been “parking” on one verb per class these days and feeling so much calmer. We stayed in Spanish for 65 out of 80 minutes today and they heard “fue” 123 times!! Woo hoo!
Thanks for reminding us to simplify the process for our students. – Louisa
Louisa I think the method is changing. Less is more. Staying on one flower, drinking the nectar deeply, instead of flying from flower to flower in the shallow and wide way. Look, those 123 times were so much better for the kids than splitting three structures into 40 reps on each one in one day. And yes, I know exactly what you mean, you were more calm. I get that. AND I have been able to move around in lots of different verb tenses IF the structure allows. It all goes back to those 500 hours we have in four years being only 1/20th of what they need.
Does this mean not to do stories because then you have three structures to teach? Not at all. For me, I just do a story over three days before going to the Step 3 ROA reading part of the sequence. That’s a good way to get the reps (and the calm feeling).
Thank you Louisa.
