Chris Stoltz’ article is getting continued attention. This is from Nathaniel Hardt in Massachusetts:
Hi Ben,
I tried to get to where your commendation was to Chris’ article but couldn’t remember where it was.
[ed. note: it is here: http://www.bctf.ca/TeacherNewsmagSept2013/ (p. 16)]
I shared the link with other FL teachers in my district. At least two of them have read it and gotten back to me.
One is a middle school teacher who has “mixed feelings.” She sounds interested but has a few questions (One was “I had a professor at UMASS who went to school with Stephen Krashen and told us that he was not fluent in any foreign language. [I do not know if that is true or not.].” I pointed out that the appeal of CI/TPRS is that it is it is the result many K-12 FL teachers (starting with Blaine Ray) who have hammered out what to do in the classroom.) On the other hand, she expressed interest in learning more.
The other is a high school teacher who used TPRS until he was bullied into submission by an administrator. He thanked me for the article and said that he was going to do his first story this year….
So the upshot is that Chris’ great article is not just affecting thousands of readers in Canada.
Nathaniel
