Why not just teach half the class period traditional and half CI? The reason I say that is because the yapping is just too stupid in some buildings. Now, if the department/school wants CI, that’s great. They won’t hassle you. But it just seems to me so simple to split it evenly and be done with the hassle and the backbiting and all the just plain stupid stuff that happens when traditional colleagues who are clueless put on their ugly faces. It’s not as if anything is ever learned in the second half of a grammar class period anyway – the time is lost because by that time the kids are brain dead. I had suggested this idea to Mila who is our new group member and in her first week this week of doing CI – in order to keep them off her back as a new teacher in a traditional building – and she reported:
So, my classes are usually 47 min. and I do 23 min. book, 23 min. CI (the time really flies by like this!). Tomorrow classes are 1h20 min, that is 40 min. book, 40. min CI. I’ll do W & D about their cards tomorrow and a OWI if I have time. Thanks!
