I’m amazed that many of us are too weak to challenge kids when they decide to show up for class without their video on. This is not acceptable. We teach LANGUAGES. They are participatory in nature; back–and-forth, reciprocal, human interaction and eye contact is required.
How on earth could you teach a language class if the kids are not there? The standard is communication. How embarrassing to be in a profession where so many teachers are afraid to stand up like adults and teach in a way that requires that the child be there visually.
I’m stunned that this is happening. Do something about it. Change your pedagogy, find a new way, grow up!
